XR Creators Connect #5

During the fifth XR Creators Connect meetup we bring together the XR community in The Netherlands!
In this edition we are looking behind the scenes of several recent XR projects, learning more about what went into creating, design, building and launching them.

This edition will be on Wednesday February 12th, 2025 at Beeld & Geluid (Theater 1) at the Media Park in Hilversum.

We’ll have several presentations:

Sander Sneek from Wonderment by Design will give us a behind the scenes look at Programming Blocks (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4UEamVXu1M). He will share insights into how this innovative mixed reality educational app was created—from concept to prototype as part of the Meta Start Incubation Program. Learn about the design process, challenges, and how the app leverages cutting-edge Meta Presence Platform features like passthrough, spatial anchors, and hand tracking to teach coding in a playful, intuitive way. Roland Smeenk will share his experience as lead developer of the VR Opera From Dust. In this VR experience, the audience navigates through a series of surreal worlds that are personalized to match their personality. Virtual counterparts of the German vocal ensemble Sjaella perform the opera composed and directed by Michel van der Aa. In his talk Roland will discuss the integration of AI-driven scene generation, keeping a balance between storytelling and interactivity, the creation of virtual singers, and the creative solutions for handling physical space limitations. Max van Leeuwen will showcase his work on Snap’s new Spectacles, along with some examples of what others have built so far since its launch in September 2024. He’ll also cover the capabilities of Spectacles, going over its features, hardware, and development tools.

XR Lab & Media Campus NL will present some of the interesting work done by XR Lab students, including for Rooftop Immersive Studio’s and Dropstuff. Media Campus NL will also talk about ClickNL’s ‘Innovatiemakelaars regeling’, through which Media Campus NL offers support to SMEs looking to discover new ways to engage audiences through immersive narratives.
